He discourages the phenomenon of ‘japa’ or mass emigration, asserting that although foreign countries may offer high-paying jobs, the likelihood of securing opportunities is minimal.
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, contends that Nigeria offers numerous opportunities, allowing ordinary citizens to ascend to positions such as minister or governor.
He discourages the phenomenon of ‘japa’ or mass emigration, asserting that although foreign countries may offer high-paying jobs, the likelihood of securing opportunities is minimal.
Amaechi underscores the distinctive possibility in Nigeria, where one can unexpectedly become a minister or governor, urging individuals to stay for the diverse opportunities available.
Despite his departure from office, he clarifies his focus on personal life over political activities. Amaechi recounts his tenure as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007, followed by his governorship from 2007 to 2015.
From 2015 to 2022, he served as the Transport Minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari, following his role as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign.
He resigned as the minister in 2022 to contest the APC presidential primaries, where he came second behind President Bola Tinubu.
