Philip Shaibu has rejected his removal from the position of deputy governor of Edo State.

He was ousted from office on Monday following the endorsement of a report by a seven-member investigative panel by members of the Edo State House of Assembly.

The panel, chaired by retired Justice S. A. Omonuwa and appointed by Daniel Okungbowa, the chief judge of Edo State, investigated allegations of misconduct, perjury, and disclosure of government secrets against Shaibu.

Consequently, Governor Godwin Obaseki selected Omobayo Godwin as the new deputy governor, who has since been sworn in.

In a video shared on his social media platform, Shaibu denounced the charges against him as fabricated, claiming they were orchestrated to conceal the real motives behind his removal.

He attributed his impeachment to his intention to contest the 2024 Edo State governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party.

Shaibu criticized the move as an attack on democracy and vowed to fight against the injustice with all his might, expressing confidence in the legal system to uphold his innocence.

He called upon the people of Edo State to stand against what he perceives as a violation of their rights.
