The Senator representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, Saliu Mustapha, has challenged the newly inaugurated local government council chairmen and councilors in the state to view their new offices as an opportunity to genuinely serve the people.

Mustapha, who chairs the Senate Committee on Agricultural Production Services and Rural Development, said this in a congratulatory message to the new council officials, a copy of which was sent to journalists in Ilorin.

The legislator felicitated the new council leaders, urging them to immediately commence meaningful work aimed at improving the welfare of the people, especially those at the grassroots.

He said there was the need for them to focus on delivering the dividends of democracy through projects and initiatives that have direct and positive impact on the lives of rural communities.

Mustapha added that the responsibilities before the local government officials transcend politics, calling for a commitment to transparency, accountability, and the provision of essential services.

He urged them to prioritize infrastructural development, agricultural support, healthcare, education, and other vital sectors that can transform the rural areas and uplift the livelihood of the people they serve.

The senator also assured the chairmen and councilors of his support and collaboration, particularly in areas related to agricultural development and rural infrastructure.

He noted that through strategic partnerships between the federal, state and local governments, more could be achieved in alleviating poverty and fostering sustainable growth in the rural regions of Kwara State.
