Former Senate Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume, has issued an apology to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for not consulting the party before publicly criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Representing Borno South in the National Assembly, Ndume stated that despite his apology, he stands by his comments, asserting that his actions were motivated by patriotism.

“Yesterday, I was invited by the party to discuss recent events, which you are all aware of. The national chairman is like a father to me,” Ndume explained. “It was not surprising that I was called to explain my side, and we had a family discussion. I acknowledged my mistake of not consulting the party first and promised that any future concerns would be addressed within the party.”

He emphasized that his criticisms, although strong, were true and driven by patriotism, but he admitted that he should have discussed these issues with the party first.

As a result of his statements, the senator was removed from his position and replaced by Senator Mohammed Monguno. This decision followed a letter from the APC, co-signed by National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, instructing the upper chamber to sanction Ndume for not using party channels to express his grievances before going public.

In a BBC Hausa Service interview, Ndume accused President Tinubu of being misled by certain forces within the Presidential Villa, alleging they were feeding the President false information and preventing him from hearing the truth from patriotic Nigerians.

This criticism led to Ndume’s removal from his roles as a principal officer in the National Assembly and a committee chairman.
