Senate confirms reappointment of Abike Dabiri-Erewa as NiDCOM chair
The upper legislative chamber confirmed Dabiri-Erewa on Tuesday after Nanchi Michael, chairperson of the senate committee on diaspora, presented a report at the plenary.
The senate has confirmed the reappointment of Abike Dabiri-Erewa as chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) for a second term in office.
The upper legislative chamber confirmed Dabiri-Erewa on Tuesday after Nanchi Michael, chairperson of the senate committee on diaspora, presented a report at the plenary.
Michael said Dabiri-Erewa possesses the necessary technical and academic credentials to perform exceptionally and efficiently in the role.
The lawmaker said there was no petition against her noting that the nominee sponsored the bill for the establishment of the commission when she was a member of the house of representatives.
President Muhammadu Buhari wrote to the senate early this month seeking confirmation of Dabiri-Erewa.
Dabiri-Erewa is the pioneer chair of the commission that is domiciled in the federal ministry of foreign affairs.
Before becoming NiDCOM chair, she was the senior special assistant to the president on foreign affairs and diaspora.
Dabiri-Erewa is a former member of the green chamber of the national assembly representing the Ikorodu constituency of Lagos.
The upper legislative chamber also confirmed the appointment of three nominees as board members of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
This was after the adoption of a report presented by Amos Bulus, chairperson of the senate committee on NDDC.
They are Benard Okwmagba (Delta), Patric Aisowieren (Edo) and Kyrian Uchegbu (Imo).
The senate also confirmed the appointment of Funke Opeke as a member of the Universal Service Provision (USP) Board.
