Senate Approves Tinubu’s Nominees for North-West and South-East Commissions

The Senate has confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s nominees for the North West Development Commission (NWDC) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC).

The confirmation followed the presentation of a report by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, chair of the Senate’s ad hoc committee on regional development, during Tuesday’s plenary.

Senator Kalu, representing Abia North, stated that all nominees successfully met the requirements for holding public office during the screening process.

A total of 14 nominees were approved for the NWDC, while 18 nominees were confirmed for the SEDC.

For the NWDC, Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi was confirmed as chairman, with Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji as the chief executive officer (CEO). Other appointees include Yahaya Umar Namahe, Aminu Suleiman, Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq, Yahaya Aminu Abdullahi, Muhammad Ali Wudil, Shamsu Sule, Nasidi Ali, Chukwu Chijioke, Ahmed Mohammed, Ahmed Rufai Timasantyu, Macdonalds Michael Uyi, and Babatunde Dada.

At the SEDC, Emeka Nworgu was confirmed as chairman, while Mark Okoye was named managing director. Other nominees approved for the commission include Ugochukwu Agballah, Okey Izenwa, Hyacinth Ikpor, Chidi Echeazu, Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, Hamma Adama, Ali Kumo, Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima, Daniel Akwari, Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma, Stanley Ohajuruka, Sylvester Okonkwo, Toby Okechukwu, Anthony Agbo, and Clifford Ogbede.

The establishment of these commissions aims to drive development in the respective regions and address unique socio-economic challenges.
