Shehu Gabam, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has pledged to challenge the ruling of the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which affirmed Usman Ododo as the legitimate governor of Kogi State.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Gabam criticized the tribunal’s judgment, alleging it was a miscarriage of justice aimed at disenfranchising the people of Kogi State.

Gabam emphasized that the party is determined to pursue the case to the Supreme Court to regain its mandate from the All Progressives Congress-led administration of Governor Ododo.

The tribunal, sitting in Abuja on May 27, upheld Ododo’s electoral victory, stating that the SDP’s petition lacked substance and dismissed it. The panel of justices, led by Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu, ruled that the petitioners failed to provide sufficient evidence of over-voting and non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.

Despite the tribunal’s decision, Murtala Ajaka, the SDP candidate, remains resolute in continuing the legal battle, expressing confidence in the team of lawyers and their dedication to upholding democracy’s principles. Ajaka is optimistic that the tribunal’s judgment will be overturned in the end.
