S’Court dismisses Ajaka’s appeal, upholds Ododo’s election as Kogi governor

The Supreme Court has confirmed Usman Ododo as the legitimately elected governor of Kogi State.
In a ruling delivered on Friday, a five-member panel rejected the appeal submitted by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its governorship candidate, Murtala Ajaka.
The panel, in its judgment on case SC/CV/654/2024, declared the appeal to be without merit.
Sadiq Umar, who authored and read the lead judgment, ruled against the appellants on all three issues raised for consideration.
The Supreme Court also dismissed an appeal filed by the Action Alliance (AA) and its candidate, Olayinka Baimoh, challenging Ododo’s victory.
The court deemed the appeal, marked SC/CV/653/2024, as invalid because the notice of appeal was submitted beyond the 14-day limit established by law.
The court subsequently dismissed the appeal and ordered the appellants to pay N5 million in costs to the respondents.
