Scandal : EFCC seizes Betta Edu, Sadiya Umar international passports
This action is part of the ongoing investigations into alleged scandals within the ministry, particularly the N44bn fraud. Edu, who arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Tuesday, is undergoing interrogation.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confiscated the international passports of the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouq.
This action is part of the ongoing investigations into alleged scandals within the ministry, particularly the N44bn fraud. Edu, who arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Tuesday, is undergoing interrogation.
The scandal emerged after a leaked memo revealed a questionable transfer of N585m to a private account, leading to public pressure and President’s decision to suspend Edu.
Both Edu and Umar-Farouq had their passports seized to prevent them from leaving the country during the investigation.
The EFCC is also probing managing directors of three commercial banks over their involvement in the fraud.
