Rivers State House of Assembly overrides Gov Fubara to pass four new bills into law
Channels TV reported the development, highlighting that the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, read four letters from the governor declining assent to the bills.
The Rivers State House of Assembly, in a plenary on January 26, voted to override Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s veto and passed four new bills into law.
Channels TV reported the development, highlighting that the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, read four letters from the governor declining assent to the bills.
The House invoked Section 100 subsection 5, asserting that the governor’s assent wasn’t required if the bill was passed again by a two-thirds majority.
The Speaker accused the governor of avoiding local government elections, emphasizing that the new law curtails the governor’s authority to appoint caretaker committee chairmen.
The 4 Laws passed are:
1-The Rivers Local Government Amendment Law
2-The Rivers State Traditional Rulers Amendment Law
3-The Rivers State Advertisement and Use of State Owned Property Prohibition repeal law.
4- The Rivers State Funds Management and Financial Autonomy Law.
