The Rivers chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has formally invited Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to join their party, following the recent defection of 27 members of the Rivers House of Assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Tony Okocha, the caretaker chair of Rivers APC, stated during a press conference in Port Harcourt that Wike, a prominent politician, could consider joining the APC to contribute to the ruling party.
Okocha acknowledged Wike’s influential status and emphasized the party’s need for his assistance.
He suggested that Wike might not remain in the PDP until 2027 and encouraged him to align with the APC as the governing party.
Okocha clarified that the defectors did not inform him of any plans to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara but criticized the governance in Rivers under Fubara’s leadership.
