Protest hits Ilorin over fuel price hike
The capital city of Kwara State, Ilorin, has seen a series of spontaneous protests in response to the recent dramatic increase in fuel prices by the federal government.
The price of fuel has surged from N550 to N1200 per liter overnight, prompting widespread discontent among residents.
The protesters, consisting primarily of motorcycle and tricycle operators gathered at key locations including Taiwo Road and Oloje.
They voiced their frustration with the federal government’s policies, arguing that the sudden hike has exacerbated the cost of living and imposed severe hardships on the general populace.
Kwara State has become the first to experience such immediate and widespread protests following the price adjustment.
The protests are seen as a precursor to a planned nationwide demonstration scheduled for October 1, with organizers suggesting that today’s actions may signal more extensive protests to come across the country.
