A Reputable Online News medium in Nigeria, PRNigeria has trained some members of the Association of Kwara online media practitioners (ASKOMP) and other Kwara-based Journalist on Fact checking and Digital Journalism.
The 2-day workshop which was held at Kwara Hotel in ilorin, Kwara state Capital was organized with the support of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) with the endorsement of Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.
The training which was attended by correspondents of major National dailies and members of Kwara state Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP), exposed participants to media management, conflict reporting, latest online technological tools for fact-checking and enhancing search engine optimization.
Delivering an opening remarks, Editor-in-Chief of PR Nigeria, Mall. Yushau Shuaibu said the workshop was imperative to strengthen adherence to professional ethics and ensure journalists utilize the powers in their hands as the society watchdog with highest level of responsibility.
Yushau noted that “While the primary duty of a journalist is to inform the public to make informed decisions. We must however do so fairly, accurately and objectively. We must also be conscious of the implications of our contents on our local polity and thus, we should be driven by patriotism and national interests.”
Shuaib said that the organization decided to choose Kwara as one of the states for the Workshop for its economic stability and security.
The events featured presentations by seasoned mainstream and digital journalists such as Alh. Yushau Shuaibu, Dahiru Lawal, Abdulrahman Abdulraheem, Mukhtar Madobi among others. Erudite scholar, Dr. Mrs. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi also led presentation on Media management.
There were also interactive and questions and answers sessions, where journalists compared notes and shared practical on-the-job experiences.
At the completion of the workshop, participants were presented with certificates of participation and urged to put the training acquired into practice, noting that the organizations will sustain professional ties with the participants and exchange views on how to ensure practice of responsible journalism.
