Presidency : France to Return $150 Million Abacha Loot

The Presidency has confirmed that France is set to return $150 million of funds embezzled by the former Nigerian military leader, General Sani Abacha.

During a meeting with France’s Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, President Tinubu expressed gratitude for the return of the funds and emphasized their intended purpose in furthering Nigeria’s developmental goals.
The meeting also highlighted the strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and France, with discussions on various collaborative areas, including climate change, economic integration, education, culture, and a signed agreement of €100 million to support Nigeria’s i-DICE program.
The French minister conveyed President Emmanuel Macron’s goodwill and extended an invitation for President Tinubu to attend the Paris Peace Forum.
Additionally, the French Presidential Envoy mentioned that the repatriation of the Abacha funds had gone through a lengthy legal process, emphasizing the importance of justice and acknowledging President Tinubu’s leadership within the ECOWAS.
