Positive Adjustments Required for Sanctions Relief in Niger – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu, the Chairperson of ECOWAS, has stated that the economic sanctions imposed on Niger Republic will only be lifted if there are positive changes made by the military junta.
Tinubu emphasized the exhaustion of diplomatic avenues before considering military intervention and expressed strong opposition to forcibly removing a democratic government. He conveyed this stance during a meeting with the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NCIA).
Tinubu highlighted the potential consequences of not taking action and noted that the option of kinetic intervention is still under consideration. He referenced Nigeria’s successful transition to democratic governance and encouraged Niger to follow a similar path.
Tinubu acknowledged the hardship caused by the fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria and assured ongoing reforms for economic improvement. He also mentioned discussions about providing land for animal husbandry and agro-allied production. Vice President Kashim Shettima highlighted budget allocation for rebuilding in the North West and North East, with an emphasis on dialogue for security challenges.
The Sultan of Sokoto expressed loyalty to President Tinubu and pledged support for his aspirations, while suggesting improved monitoring and distribution of palliatives across the country.
