Police visit slain Kwara poly student’s family

The Commissioner of Police for Kwara State, CP Victor Olaiya, led a team on Tuesday to extend condolences to the family of Quoyum Ishola, a student of Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, who was tragically killed last Wednesday.
Representing the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, CP Olaiya visited the student’s family at their residence in Alagbon, Oke Andi, Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
In a statement released on Wednesday by Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Kwara Command, CP Olaiya conveyed the IGP’s commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased. The statement expressed gratitude to the family for their cooperation during the investigation and assured them that justice would be served.
The IGP has directed the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) to take over the investigation, and all officers involved have been transferred to facilitate a thorough and impartial inquiry, the statement said.
Mr. Muselim Abdulyekeen, the father of the late student, along with Mrs. Ramat Abdulyekeen, the mother, thanked the IGP and the Kwara State Police Command for their ongoing support. The family expressed hope that the investigation would lead to justice for their child. The family’s clergy, Alhaji Mohamed Kewugbemi, offered prayers and praised the police for their dedication to justice. Alhaji Erolalujana (Olori-Ebi) also expressed his appreciation for the police’s assistance during this difficult period.
The statement further mentioned that the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Abdul-Jimoh Mohammed, joined the Police team to show solidarity with the bereaved family.
CP Victor Olaiya assured the family that the Kwara State Command is fully committed to ensuring justice and transparency in this case.
It should be recalled that a team of policemen from the Kwara State Police Command allegedly shot and killed Qoyum, an ND 2 Electrical Electronics Engineering student of Kwara State Polytechnic, during a stop-and-search operation in the Fate area of Ilorin last Wednesday.
