The fundraising team of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization has revealed that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, spent a significant sum of N744,500,000 on legal expenses following his defeat in the 2023 presidential election.

Aisha Yesufu, the chairman of the fundraising team, made this disclosure during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday. Yesufu provided details of the party’s election spending, stating that they received donations totaling N596 million from party supporters, including the Obidient movements and Nigerians worldwide.

She emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency, noting that they raised N595,976,994 through various financial institutions.

The campaign focused on channeling support for Peter Obi and Datti Ahmed by providing direct and indirect assistance to over 100 groups across all 36 states in Nigeria.

Despite financial constraints, they mobilized polling unit agents with N324 million and distributed campaign materials worth N258,374,330 across the country.

Media-related campaigns reached over 11 million people through radio broadcasts, community outreach, and social media. However, due to limited funds, they could not fully utilize television advertisements.

A significant portion of the expenses, N744,500,000, was allocated to cover legal fees for the election challenge. Despite Obi’s legal battle, the Supreme Court upheld Bola Tinubu’s victory on October 26, 2023, after 171 days of litigation.
