PDP Will Reclaim Kwara in 2027, Chairmanship Candidates Assure Supporters

Chairmanship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2024 local government elections in Kwara State have called on party faithful to remain resolute and united as the build-up to the 2027 governorship election gathers momentum.
In a statement signed by Comrade Esinrogunjo Musbau on behalf of the candidates, the forum expressed appreciation to supporters of the party across the state, describing them as “astute and unrepentant believers in democracy.”
The candidates criticized the conduct of the 2024 local government polls by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), alleging widespread irregularities and what they termed a “charade.” They maintained that despite the odds, the PDP won in many areas where elections held but had their victories “stolen in broad daylight.”
“In some local government areas where elections were not conducted, KWASIEC went ahead to declare APC candidates as winners even without results,” the statement alleged.
Despite this, the forum said they remain committed to the ideals of peace and democracy, vowing not to be discouraged by the setbacks.
Turning attention to the 2027 governorship election, the candidates called for decorum and unity among party members. They noted that although several individuals have shown interest in contesting, only one candidate would eventually emerge as the party’s flagbearer.
“We all belong to the same political family. Our interest in a particular individual should not create friction or animosity amongst ourselves. After the primary, we must unite and remain strategically positioned to reclaim power in 2027, In Shaa Allah,” the statement read.
The forum also emphasized the importance of grassroots mobilization, urging members to continue sensitizing the populace about the economic hardship and governance failures under the ruling APC in the state.
“There’s no cause for alarm. No retreat, no surrender. PDP will surely bring back hope and salvation come 2027,” they declared.
In conclusion, the chairmanship candidates expressed appreciation to former Senate President and leader of the party in the state, Dr. Bukola Saraki, for his consistent support and leadership. They also thanked party loyalists and stakeholders for their resilience and dedication.
“Your courage and unwavering spirit will bring back the lost glory of our state in no distant time. Hope is alive,” the statement concluded.
