PDP Secretary Calls for Swift Govt Response to Kwara’s Flooding Crisis
Greatkay extended his sympathy to the affected families and lamented the substantial damage caused by recent heavy rainfall, resulting in millions of Naira worth of destruction to homes and properties in areas like Adeta-Pakata and various parts of Ilorin.
Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode, known as Greatkay and serving as the Secretary of the PDP in Kwara, has expressed profound sadness as the people of Kwara grapple with life-threatening flooding.
Greatkay extended his sympathy to the affected families and lamented the substantial damage caused by recent heavy rainfall, resulting in millions of Naira worth of destruction to homes and properties in areas like Adeta-Pakata and various parts of Ilorin.
In a statement shared with Sho Pen Online, Greatkay highlighted a tragic incident involving a young boy who was submerged in floodwaters in Ilorin’s Okefoma-Adabiyah area but was fortunately rescued with the help of the local community.
He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the affected families, noting that many residents in these areas were taken by surprise and had to endure sleepless nights due to the flooding.
Greatkay pointed to eyewitness accounts attributing the flooding to flawed road designs, a result of the current administration’s decision to cover drainage systems, originally constructed by previous governments to manage floodwater, as part of pre-2023 general election beautification projects.
He emphasized the need for effective governance to prioritize citizen safety through proper planning, design, and the implementation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) before project approval.
He also asserted that this unfortunate incident could have been prevented if the Kwara government had adhered to professional ethics and standards in project design.
GreatKay who alleged that Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq have partially relocated to Abuja, urged the governor, as a member of the leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to refocus on Kwara’s governance to prevent further neglect of the state’s pressing needs.
Furthermore, He called for urgent government assistance to provide temporary relief to those affected by the flooding, helping them navigate through these challenging times.
