PDP insists on New Elections to Fill 25 Vacant Seats in Rivers State Assembly Amid Defection Crisis

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is standing firm on its call for fresh elections to fill the 25 seats allegedly vacated by lawmakers who defected in the Rivers State Assembly.

The decision emerged from an emergency meeting in Abuja, with Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, the acting national chairman, announcing the resolution.

Damagum emphasized that the former members must undergo a new nomination and re-election process if they intend to return to the Assembly.

The PDP is urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to schedule new elections, citing constitutional provisions and legal requirements.

The party also encourages unity among its members in Rivers State in upholding constitutional democracy and the rule of law.
