Osimhen Sparks Napoli to a 4-0 Triumph Over Lecce in Serie A
Center-back Leo Ostigard opened the scoring early with his inaugural league goal for Napoli. However, it was only after Osimhen’s halftime appearance that the visitors took command of the match.
Napoli clinched their second Serie A victory within four days as Victor Osimhen, entering as a substitute, scored in a 4-0 triumph over Lecce, elevating the Italian champions to third place.
Center-back Leo Ostigard opened the scoring early with his inaugural league goal for Napoli. However, it was only after Osimhen’s halftime appearance that the visitors took command of the match.
On the 51st minute, Osimhen headed in a cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, followed by late goals from Gianluca Gaetano and Matteo Politano that sealed the resounding victory.
Politano converted a penalty while Osimhen opted not to take penalty duties for the second consecutive game, following a video posted by the club mocking his earlier missed attempt.
Earlier this week, Napoli clarified they had no intention of offending Osimhen after his agent threatened legal action.
This win brought Napoli within a point of leaders Inter Milan and AC Milan, both playing later on Saturday. Milan hosted Lazio, while Inter faced winless Salernitana.
Rudi Garcia, Napoli’s manager, commented, “It was a well-managed match from start to finish, and we aimed to score in the first 15 minutes.” He also expressed satisfaction for Ostigard’s performance and noted the team’s improvement since their previous draw with Genoa.
Garcia added, “All our players are returning to their best form, which is why the team is finding consistency.”
