[Op_Ed] : Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode; The Right Man for Kwara PDP Secretary

The vacant State Secretary position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara needs a vibrant, energetic, experienced, young, cerebral, and astute politician like Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode fondly called Greatkay who has well-blended and cross-fertilized ideas in journalism, politics and administration.

Manifold calls for making Mr. Abdulrahman the next Secretary of the Kwara PDP have been emanating from different quarters. As the calls keep coming from the promising young and elderly Kwarans whom he had worked with in the political and non-political spheres, the hearers of his tested and trusted competence are not also keeping mute. GreatKay has a verse practical experience in journalism, apart from being a holder of a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Kwara State University, Malete. His sojourn in journalism and political leadership started from his secondary school days as the President, of Kwara State Secondary Schools Association of Press Club (2004/2005), the experience which he later deployed to establish Kwara Legacy Frontiers (KWARALEFRO), a pioneer social media platform in Kwara State which has been assisting in promoting the courses of the political parties led by the Sarakis in the state for the past two decades. As an engineering student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, between 2006 and 2011 (national diploma and higher national diploma respectively), he held several positions in the citadel of learning, including Students’ Union Government (SUG) Financial Secretary (2010/2011).

In addition, the young but highly experienced Kayode had served as Secretary, Coordinator, and Initiator of countless political and non-political associations, committees, and forums that had in the past yielded remarkable and sustainable achievements for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State between the years 2003 and 2019. Not only that, his impacts on the community and human capital developments in Ubandawaki Ward of Ilorin West local government area and Pakata Community entirely (comprising Adewole, Alanamu, Ajikobi, and Ubandawaki wards), in terms of jobs facilitation, business supports, Quranic competition sponsorship, JAMB and NABTEB distribution among others, are ceaseless and continually receive applauds from his community people. It is noteworthy to emphasize that his human relations skill, as a veritable tool assisting him to connect to the youths from all divides, political or apolitical, across the state is a colossus asset to the PDP if given the chance to handle the position; a rare quality of his which I believe other people eyeing the seat cannot beat.

Delving little into his profile, the brilliant GreatKay who has ND and HND in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with Upper Credit Division and BSc and MSc in Computer Science with Second Class Upper Division and Distinction respectively, was the President, of Kwara State Secondary Schools’ Association of Press Club, 2004-2005; pioneer Secretary, Waziri Youth Development Association (WYDA), 2008-2010; pioneer State Secretary (Acting), Waziri Youth Development Association (WYDA); Kwara Poly SUG Financial Secretary, 2010-2011; member, PDP Presidential Campaign Youth Council, 2019; member, Baraje-led Kwara PDP Reconciliation, and Engagement Committee (assisted in Committee’s Secretariat); member Kwara PDP Unified Campaign Council, 2023, to mention but few.

The effervescent GreatKay has more than two decades of experience in the politics of the Saraki dynasty, aside from the fact that his late dad, Alhaji Abdulrahman Sidiq Alase was a core and unadulterated Sarakite. He has never for a second pitched his tent against the dynasty. His loyalty to the dynasty is second to none among those who have shown or may still show interest in the seat, regardless of the chronology.

My people, in the interest of the success of the Kwara PDP in the forthcoming elections, all hands of the progressive-minded stakeholders must be on deck to make Abdullahi Kayode Abdulrahman the next Secretary of our great party.
