Only God and Destiny Can Decide Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Ambition – Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation Magazine and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that God and destiny will ultimately decide whether Atiku Abubakar becomes Nigeria’s president in 2027.

Speaking on Channels Television, Momodu addressed criticisms of Abubakar’s continued presidential ambitions, questioning why some critics, such as former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose, appear concerned about the former vice-president’s age and aspirations.

Fayose recently suggested that Abubakar should retire from presidential contests due to his age, as Nigerians are increasingly calling for younger leaders.

Abubakar, who is currently 77, will be 81 by the time of the 2027 elections. He has made six attempts to secure the presidency, appearing on the ballot as a candidate three times (2007, 2019, and 2023).

Momodu responded to these concerns by pointing to global examples like U.S. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, both of whom attained office at an advanced age, asserting that age should not automatically qualify or disqualify anyone in politics.

He also suggested that critics of Abubakar did not necessarily support younger candidates during the 2023 elections, and questioned the effectiveness of younger politicians in office.

Regarding whether Abubakar would pose a threat to President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election in 2027, Momodu noted that if Abubakar can unite a significant political movement and if the nation’s mood is largely against the current administration, he could indeed be a formidable contender.
