Oloriegbe makes list as Buhari Sets up c’ttee to Reform Nigeria’s Health Sector

The Senator representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe” has made the list of eminent Nigerians appointed into the Health Sector Reform Committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to a press release from the presidency, signed by Garba Sheu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, the committee chairs by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo will undertake a review of all healthcare reforms adopted in the past two decades and lessons learnt and factor them into the development of the new Health Sector Reform Programme.

“The committee which is set up for six months under the Chairmanship of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has members drawn from private and public sector healthcare management professionals, development partners, representatives from the National Assembly as well as the Nigeria Governors Forum among others.

“Other members are: His Excellency Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State; Dr Osagie Ehanire, Honourable Minister of Health; Mr Alex Okoh Director-General BPE; Prof Ibrahim Abubakar, a Professor in Infectious Disease Epidemiology at University College London and Director of the UCL Institute for Global Health; Mr Babatunde Irukera, Director General, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council; Dr Adedamola Dada; Dr Sani Aliyu; Dr Mairo Mandara; Dr Haliru Yahaya, Emir of Shonga; Professor Uche Amazigbo; Director Hospital Services, Federal Ministry of Health; Dr Faisal Shuaib; Prof Nasiru Sambo; Dr Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa; Dr Gambo Aliyu;

“Others in the committee are: Dr Betta Edu ( Chairman Nigeria Health Commissioners Forum representing National Council on Health); President Nigeria Medical Association; President Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria; President National Association of Nigeria Nurses & Midwives; President Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria; Mrs Temi Marcella Awogboro; Dr Muhammad Sadiq; Dr Azubike Tagbo and World Health Organization, Nigeria.”

Recalled that Oloriegbe before venturing into societal politics was a practising medical practitioner who has contributed immensely to the development of the Health Sector in Nigeria and offshore.

In 2001, Oloriegbe under the leadership of Prof. Eyitayo Lambo was one of the Change Agents for the Change Agent Programme (CAP), a programme sponsored by the British Department For International Development (DFID) and was later appointed the Director of the programme after Eyitayo was appointed Minister of Health a few years later.

He was also the first Executive Secretary of the Health Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON) and in 2015, he was appointed Chief of Party (COP) by PLAN Liberia for the Global Fund Country Malaria Programme with efforts towards controlling and eradicating malaria amongst pregnant women and children in the country.
