Okorocha arrested by EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives on Tuesday evening broke into the Abuja home of former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha and whisked him away.

They also dispersed journalists from the building.

After the operatives broke into the building, they shot sporadically to disperse a crowd of supporters who gathered in the area to show solidarity for the ex-governor.

The EFCC operatives stormed Okorocha’s residence in the Maitama area of Abuja early on Tuesday to effect his arrest.

They positioned themselves in strategic locations within the building and asked the Imo West senator to either submit himself for arrest or honour the EFCC’s invitation.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Tuesday evening, the commission said Okorocha who is one of the 28 aspirants vying for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket in next Sunday’s primary refused to honour invitations extended to him after jumping the administrative bail granted him in April last year.

The EFCC had in January filed a 17-count charge of fraud against Okorocha at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The anti-graft agency accused the Imo West senator and six others, including a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, of conspiring to steal N2.9 billion belonging to the Imo State government
