Kogi State governor, Usman Ododo, has approved a new minimum wage of N72,500 for civil servants in the state.

In July, President Bola Tinubu had announced a national minimum wage of N70,000 for workers. However, Ododo revealed on Tuesday that Kogi State will raise this figure to N72,500 to ease the financial burden caused by the current economic situation.

In addition, the governor announced the suspension of tax deductions on the new minimum wage for the next year.

Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promptly implementing and sustaining the new minimum wage. He emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the government and labor unions to resolve any concerns that may arise.

The governor also stressed his dedication to improving employee welfare and creating a favorable working environment.

“I come from humble beginnings and have risen to this position by the grace of God. I will not use my authority to oppress but rather to uplift the people,” Ododo said.

He further expressed his gratitude to the people for electing him and promised that the state’s resources would be fairly distributed across all sectors.

“The progress you’ve seen today is the result of the diligent efforts by labor leaders and the government, who carried out staff audits in the previous administration to ensure that legitimate workers receive their rightful wages, without the interference of ghost workers,” he added.
