Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed their intention to appeal the judgment of the presidential election petition tribunal.

On Wednesday, the tribunal upheld Bola Tinubu’s presidency, dismissing the opposition candidates’ petitions for being “lacking in merit.”

Livy Uzoukwu, the counsel for Obi and LP, stated after the lengthy court session that his clients were dissatisfied with the verdict and had instructed him to pursue an appeal.

He emphasized concerns about the state of electoral jurisprudence, warning that when election contestants face obstacles in establishing their cases, they may resort to unlawful means.

Chris Uche, Atiku’s lawyer, also expressed disappointment with the verdict, claiming they did not receive justice. He pointed out that they still had the right to appeal to the Supreme Court and viewed this as a broader struggle for democracy, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria’s elections.

Both legal teams are actively seeking the records and judgment to proceed with their appeals, with a strong commitment to continuing the legal battle.
