Obasanjo Calls for New INEC Leadership, Electoral Reforms

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for the replacement of the leadership at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging the appointment of credible individuals with shorter tenures to curb corruption and restore public confidence.
Obasanjo made these remarks during the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum held at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, USA.
Delivering a keynote address titled “Leadership Failure and State Capture in Nigeria,”he described the 2023 general elections as a “travesty” and emphasized the need for electoral reforms.
“The INEC chairperson and staff must undergo thorough vetting to ensure they are non-partisan actors with impeccable reputations,”
