Nuno Espirito Santo has secured his first win as Nottingham Forest’s manager, with Chris Wood’s hat-trick leading to a 3-1 victory over his former club, Newcastle.

Wood, who joined Forest for £15 million in June, had struggled to find the net but delivered three goals in 60 minutes.

Alexander Isak’s first-half penalty initially gave Newcastle the lead, but Wood equalized just before halftime and added two more in the second half.

This victory, Forest’s first in eight games, moved them five points clear of relegation.

Newcastle’s recent struggles continued, with their fifth defeat in seven games leaving them seventh in the league.

Nuno’s debut ended in a 3-2 defeat against Bournemouth. Later on Boxing Day, Liverpool had a chance to go top of the league with a draw or win against Burnley.
