The Osun Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Emmanuel Ocheja, has assured residents of adequate security despite the shooting in Osogbo, on Monday.
Some unidentified individuals shot to scare away supporters of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, who were moving with his convoy and hailing him as he passed through Osogbo.
The security details of the Minister were also reported to have shot into the air, to repel the gunmen, and the shootings created tension and pandemonium, with people running for safety.
The NSCDC commandant, through a statement by his command’s Public Relations Officer, Atanda Olabisi, explained that the security details of the Minister were able to disperse the hoodlums and restore normalcy to the area.
He said Osun is a peaceful state, adding that the state NSCDC command will continue to render excellent and all–inclusive security services in the state, in line with the statutory mandates and functions of the Corps.
He added that professionalism and impartiality is the watchword of NSCDC at all times.
