The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has clinched all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the 44 local government areas in Kano State, marking a decisive victory in the recent local government elections.

The Chairman of the Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Sani Malumfashi, announced the results at the commission’s headquarters, confirming the NNPP’s sweep in each contested local government.

Six political parties participated in the election, which remained peaceful across the state.

During a press briefing, Malumfashi commended the smooth conduct of the election, highlighting the absence of violence or electoral malpractices.

“We’re pleased to announce that the NNPP has won all chairmanship and councillorship seats in Kano’s 44 local government areas. The election was transparent and orderly, with no reports of violence,” he stated.

Observers praised the election as a milestone for the state, lauding the efficient organization and security arrangements that facilitated an incident-free process.

The election proceeded after a series of legal attempts aimed at halting it. On Friday, the Kano State High Court empowered KANSIEC to carry out the elections, dismissing objections from various political parties.

Justice Sanusi Ma’aji, presiding over the case, ruled that KANSIEC holds the constitutional authority to conduct, supervise, and manage local government elections across Kano’s 44 LGAs. The case was brought against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 13 other political parties.

According to Channels Television’s report, local vigilante groups and officials from the Kano Road Transport Agency (KAROTA) provided security at the polling units after the Kano State Police Command complied with a court order restricting its involvement in the election
