NNPC has not started lifting our petrol – Dangote Group
The Dangote Group has clarified that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has not yet started lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from its refinery.
In a statement released on Thursday by Anthony Chiejina, the Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, the company emphasized that the contract with NNPC has not been finalized.
“We wish to clarify that NNPC has not begun lifting refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, from our Dangote petroleum refinery,” the statement read. “As such, the issue of setting the price for petrol from our refinery does not arise since our contract with NNPC is still in progress.”
The Dangote Group also pointed out that the petrol market in Nigeria is heavily regulated, meaning that the company does not have the authority to set or influence the price of the product, which is determined by relevant government agencies.
The company reassured Nigerians that high-quality petroleum products would be made available nationwide.
Earlier this week, Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, officially announced that petrol production had commenced at the refinery. This follows a previous announcement that production would begin in June, though it was eventually postponed.
