NLC kicks against CBN’s cybersecurity levy on transactions

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has rejected a new directive from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that requires financial institutions to implement a 0.5% cybersecurity levy on all electronic transactions.
Joe Ajaero, the NLC president, criticized the levy, stating it imposes an extra financial burden on hardworking Nigerians, reducing their disposable income and purchasing power.
He argued that while cybersecurity is essential, the levy would unfairly impact workers and vulnerable groups. Ajaero urged the government and stakeholders to find a better solution that doesn’t overburden the public.
The NLC vowed to continue advocating for the rights and welfare of Nigerian workers and called for a more collaborative approach to addressing cybersecurity issues.
