NILDS Holds Executive Retreat in Ilorin

The retreat which is themed: “Rethinking NILDS For Enhanced Service Delivery” took place at white-field hotel, Ilorin, the State Capital.

The National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) on Sunday organized executive retreat for management staff of the institute to enhance service delivery. 

The retreat which is themed: “Rethinking NILDS For Enhanced Service Delivery” took place at white-field hotel, Ilorin, the State Capital. 

Speaking with newsmen during the event, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, the Director General (D-G), National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) Explained that the retreat was organized in a bid for the management of NILDS To reflect on what they have done, identify their strengths, weaknesses and the next things to do in the next four years.

He added that the event is also an avenue for the management to come up with an agenda of how NILDS can key into the vision of the new government. 

Prof. Sulaiman noted that the retreat is a normal practice and normal tradition for any serious minded organization that’s we’ll focus and well visionary in-terms of what it intend to achieve to take a reflection on the goal set in the evolution of that organization. 

“In the last four years of my stewardship as the director general of the institute, we came with A-lot of visions, missions and strategic goals and to the best of my knowledge and ability we’ve been able to actualize most of these goals and agenda set for our self especially capacity building for National Assembly members, Parliamentarians at the state level and indeed for democratic actors in the country. 

“Today NILDS is one power institution when it’s come to Knowledge acquisition, capacity building and enhancement in this country, we have been able to build capacity of the legislator both nation and sub-national levels.” We have been able to build the capacity Democratic actors, political parties, CSO’s, NGO and including the media.”

Sulaiman however charged participants to provide good quality products and offer high quality client service. 

Prof. Attahiru Jega, the former Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who also witnessed the event emphasised the importance of the retreat, saying it is an opportunity for the institute to review its performance and identify the need for quality governance in the country.

He however expressed support for the NILDS policy thrust in expanding democratisation of Nigeria.
