Nigerians Crashed My Phone Over ‘Night club’ Comment Against Senator Natasha – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has recounted how his phone was overwhelmed with calls from angry Nigerians in response to his nightclub remark about fellow Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

During a plenary session last week, Akpabio had commented that the Senate chamber was not a “nightclub” and that Akpoti-Uduaghan must be recognized before speaking, which sparked significant backlash.

On Tuesday, Akpabio, who was presiding over the session, apologized, emphasizing that he never intended to insult or demean Senator Natasha and attributing the social media uproar to political adversaries.

He also mentioned that his wife’s phone number was leaked, resulting in her receiving over 3,000 calls daily.

“I am still learning,” Akpabio said. “Even those of us who have been in the Senate for 16 years are still learning. In speaking to one of my distinguished sisters, I said she should speak when recognized. I mentioned that we are not in a nightclub where people shout above the noise of the music, and social media went wild. Though I am not on social media, my wife informed me that people were angry and published her phone number. She received over 2,000 to 3,000 calls a day. When I turned on one of my phones, it also became overwhelmed and eventually crashed after about three hours.”
