Nigeria Loses Hosting Bid for AFCON 2027

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed that Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda will collectively host the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

CAF President Patrice Motsepe made this announcement in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday following a voting session involving CAF executive members.

Notably, Nigeria and Benin Republic had expressed interest in jointly hosting the event, with a Nigerian delegation, led by Sports Minister John Enoh, present in Cairo for the announcement.

The presentation for the Nigeria-Benin bid was conducted by Mainasara Illo, the chief organizer of the 2009 U-17 World Cup in Nigeria.

Additionally, other countries, including Senegal, Egypt, and Botswana, had also contended for the right to host the competition. Meanwhile, Morocco was awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 AFCON, winning unanimously with 22 votes.
