Niger state youths will not be part of planned nationwide protest, says Bago

Umar Bago, the Governor of Niger State, has announced that youths in the state will not take part in the upcoming nationwide protest against economic hardships.
Reports have emerged of a planned national demonstration addressing issues such as economic difficulties, inflation, and poor governance. However, during a town hall meeting in Minna on Thursday, Governor Bago emphasized that Niger State youths are committed to maintaining peace.
“As youths of Niger State, we have chosen to distance ourselves from the nationwide protest because we prioritize peace and tranquility,” Bago stated. “Protests can begin, but they are difficult to end. I urge those pushing for this protest to consider dialogue and communication as a better path forward.”
In efforts to alleviate the economic strain on citizens, Bago announced the release of 50,000 metric tonnes of grains to be sold at half their current price. He also promised that food prices would decrease by 90 percent in the coming months.
“We have over 100,000 metric tonnes of food in reserve. Of this, 50,000 metric tonnes will be sold at a 50 percent discount from its current price. By the end of the year, we aim to reduce food prices by 90 percent,” he said. “The food being offered at this subsidized rate was initially intended for export, but due to the current hardships, we are making it available to Niger State residents.”
Additionally, Governor Bago mentioned that his administration is not dependent on Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) funds for road projects.
“We do not rely on FAAC for our road projects in Niger State. The infrastructure development is funded through our own resources and investments. We have significant investments planned for Niger State over the next five years,” he concluded.
