National Grid Collapses for the Third Time in 2023

The national grid experienced its third system collapse of 2023 on Monday, plunging the country into darkness.

According to Ndidi Mbah, the general manager of public affairs at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the collapse occurred around 1 pm but has since been fully restored by 6:51 pm.

This marks the third such incident in recent months.

In September 2023, the national grid suffered two collapses, on September 14 and 19, respectively, both of which were eventually restored.

Additionally, Mbah reported today that the Gwagwalada-Kukwaba-Apo 132 kilovolts (KV) transmission line 1 was vandalized, suspected to have occurred around 1 am on December 10, 2023. Repairs are underway
