N585m Scandal : Tinubu suspends Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Betta Edu 

The President has instructed the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to thoroughly investigate all aspects of financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, along with its affiliated agencies.

In line with his proclaimed commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in managing Nigeria’s commonwealth, President Bola Tinubu has suspended Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, from office with immediate effect.

The President has instructed the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to thoroughly investigate all aspects of financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, along with its affiliated agencies.

The suspended Minister is directed to hand over duties to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and cooperate fully with the investigating authorities.

Additionally, the President has appointed a panel, headed by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, to conduct a comprehensive diagnostic on the financial architecture of social investment programs. The aim is to reform relevant institutions and programs to eliminate institutional weaknesses, benefiting disadvantaged households and restoring public confidence in the initiative.

These directives from the President are effective immediately.
