My ideas for Nigeria development jettisoned – Ex-President, Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has lamented that many of the progressive initiatives he introduced during his presidency were abandoned after he left office.
Speaking at the 25th anniversary celebration of Igbinedion University, Okada in Edo State, Jonathan highlighted his efforts to promote gender equality in the military, including admitting women into the Nigeria Defence Academy.
However, he expressed disappointment that certain ideas aimed at advancing the country’s technological development were disregarded.
Jonathan advocated for the removal of barriers hindering women’s progress in various professions and urged for a curriculum shift towards prioritizing skills acquisition and technology over traditional certificates in education.
Additionally, he condemned the prevalence of cultism and bullying in schools and called on government intervention to address these issues.
Jonathan also credited former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, for enabling the establishment of Igbinedion University, suggesting that without his support, the proliferation of private universities in Nigeria may not have been possible.
