Meta is set to launch “Edits,” a new video editing app designed as an all-in-one tool for creators, similar to TikTok’s CapCut.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, announced the app via Threads on Sunday, describing it as a game-changer for video content creation.

“Today, we’re announcing a new app called ‘Edits,’ for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone,” Mosseri wrote. “There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens, it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators.”

According to Mosseri, the app will feature a high-quality camera, advanced editing tools, and comprehensive Instagram performance insights, making it an ideal platform for creators looking to refine their content.

“Edits” is currently available for preorder on the iOS App Store and is expected to launch fully in February. An Android version is reportedly in the works and will follow soon after.

The announcement comes on the heels of TikTok and its affiliated editing app, CapCut, being reinstated in U.S. app stores after a temporary ban due to national security concerns. This reinstatement follows a promise by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to delay enforcing the ban with an executive order on his first day in office.

Meta has a history of adapting quickly to market shifts. When TikTok was banned in India in 2020, the company launched Instagram Reels as a direct competitor. Similarly, in 2023, Meta introduced a microblogging platform to rival X (formerly Twitter).

The release of “Edits” underscores Meta’s ongoing commitment to providing creators with cutting-edge tools to remain competitive in the ever-evolving digital content space.
