Argentina has emerged as the champions of the 2024 Copa America.

The Albiceleste secured a 1-0 victory over Colombia in the final held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, USA, early Monday morning.

Lautaro Martinez’s goal in the second half of extra time decided the match, which was delayed due to crowd trouble outside the stadium before kick-off.

Organizers reported that ticketless fans attempted to force their way in, causing delays for ticketed fans waiting for the gates to open.

The resulting rush led to clashes between fans and police, with several arrests made.

Tensions heightened when Lionel Messi was forced to leave the game in tears after sustaining an injury while chasing the ball in the second half.

Despite the game’s lackluster quality and the chaotic organization, it extended into extra time.

Martinez persevered through the humid conditions and dry performance, scoring in the 112th minute to clinch Argentina’s victory.

Receiving a through ball from Giovanni Lo Celso, the Inter Milan striker calmly slotted the ball past Colombia’s goalkeeper Camilo Vargas.

This goal secured Argentina’s 16th Copa America title, making them the team with the most wins in the competition, surpassing Uruguay.

Messi also celebrated his third consecutive major international trophy with Argentina, having led the team to victory in the 2021 Copa America and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
