Reports indicate that Ruben Amorim will be announced as Manchester United’s new manager on Thursday, following an agreement with Sporting Lisbon.

The Athletic states that the 39-year-old will remain with the Portuguese league leaders for their upcoming three matches, including next week’s Champions League clash against Manchester City.

Amorim is anticipated to assume control at Old Trafford during the November international break, with his debut match scheduled for United’s away game against Ipswich on November 24.

Sky Sports has reported that the Premier League club paid Sporting an additional one million euros on top of his 10 million euro ($11 million) release clause for an early exit.

Sporting confirmed via a statement to the Lisbon stock exchange on Tuesday that Manchester United was willing to meet the release clause.

Manchester United terminated Erik ten Hag’s two-year managerial stint on Monday after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham left them in 14th place in the Premier League, leading to Amorim emerging as the top candidate for the role.

In the meantime, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy led the team to a 5-2 victory over Leicester in the fourth round of the League Cup on Wednesday. “I came here as an assistant to help the club,” Van Nistelrooy stated. “I’m here as long as I’m needed, and I’m ready to assist the club in any capacity as we build towards the future.”

Despite significant investment in the summer transfer window, Ten Hag faced the consequences of a disappointing start to the season. Before the victory against Leicester, the team had secured only one win in their last eight matches across all competitions.
