Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves, making him the first arrival under Ruben Amorim’s reign as manager.

United triggered the 26-year-old’s £62.5 million release clause earlier this month and finalized the deal on Thursday following the successful completion of his medical and visa approval.

Cunha, who has signed a five-year contract with an option for a further year, expressed his excitement at joining the club he supported as a boy.

“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player,” Cunha said.
“Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team.
I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. I can’t wait to meet my teammates and get started.”

Cunha was one of the standout performers in the Premier League last season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions and earning Wolves’ Players’ Player of the Year award.

United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim, looking to reshape his squad after a difficult campaign, made Cunha his top attacking target — and the club has moved swiftly to secure him before the start of pre-season.

Jason Wilcox, United’s director of football, hailed the move:

“Bringing in Matheus was one of our top priorities this summer. He’s quick, intelligent, and has a real hunger to succeed — all the traits we need as we look to build a team capable of competing at the highest level.”

Cunha is expected to bring a mix of creativity, flair, and goals to a United attack that underperformed last season. He recently helped Brazil qualify for the World Cup by providing the assist for the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Paraguay.

United continue to explore further attacking options, with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo among those being monitored. The club’s transfer activity is being shaped by budgetary constraints following their absence from next season’s Champions League.
