Manchester City secured their first-ever Club World Cup title, capping off 2023 with five trophies following a convincing 4-0 victory over Fluminense in Jeddah last Friday.

Despite Fluminense’s hopes fueled by City’s prior Premier League struggles, the vast financial disparities in global football underscored the growing gap between Europe’s elite and the rest of the world.

With a 22-game winning streak by European clubs at the Club World Cup, City’s triumph was sealed with goals from Phil Foden and another from Alvarez in the final 20 minutes.
