Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has presented the staff of office to the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade. The ceremony, held at the Exco Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan on Monday, marked the official recognition of the 46th Alaafin nearly three years after the passing of his predecessor, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.

Speaking at the event, Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of the Alaafin’s stool to the Yoruba race and reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency in the selection process. He stated that he refrained from influencing the appointment to ensure fairness.

The governor also warned against attempts to destabilize the traditional institution in Oyo, pledging to prosecute those involved in any financial misconduct related to the process. He prayed for a peaceful and progressive reign for the new monarch.

In his response, Oba Owoade promised to work towards the development of Oyo Town, Oyo State, and Nigeria.

The event was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, and former Speaker, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu. The coronation ceremony is scheduled to hold in four weeks.
