Maddison scored as Tottenham Defeat Man United in EPL Clash

James Maddison’s first-half goal secured a 1-0 victory for Tottenham Hotspur over Manchester United in their English Premier League (EPL) clash at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Despite both teams struggling for form and lingering in the lower half of the table, the match saw an intense battle. United, hampered by injuries, fielded a youthful bench, but their senior players’ wastefulness in front of goal proved costly, extending their winless run against Spurs to six matches across all competitions.
The visitors had the first real chance to take the lead against the run of play, but Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario pulled off a superb double save to deny Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho’s rebound attempt.
Spurs capitalized on their momentum in the 19th minute when Maddison reacted quickest to a rebound after Lucas Bergvall’s shot was parried by André Onana. The England international calmly slotted home to put the hosts in front.
Manchester United had a golden opportunity to equalize, but Garnacho squandered his chance, firing wide from close range. Tottenham remained dominant, with January signing Mathys Tel forcing a save from Onana as the first half ended with the hosts still ahead.
United emerged stronger in the second half, pushing for an equalizer, but their finishing woes continued. Vicario was in fine form again, denying Garnacho twice in quick succession and stopping Joshua Zirkzee’s late header.
Tottenham held firm to secure all three points, leapfrogging United into 12th place with 30 points from 24 matches. The Red Devils, meanwhile, dropped to 15th, edging closer to the relegation battle.
Earlier in the day, Mohamed Salah scored his 23rd league goal of the season from the penalty spot as Liverpool edged Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Anfield, extending their lead at the top of the table to seven points.
