LG Autonomy – I’ll Adhere To S/Court Ruling – Katsina Gov

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has announced his intention to implement the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy.
This decision follows the court’s ruling in favor of LG autonomy, which resulted from a suit filed by the federal government against state governors.
In response, the Senate has proposed a bill to establish a commission responsible for overseeing LG elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Governor Radda emphasized that Katsina State already provides a considerable degree of autonomy to its local governments. He reaffirmed the state’s dedication to adhering to the constitution.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina, Governor Radda stated, “I am not here to interpret the judgment. Katsina State is committed to following the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He added that he has requested the state attorney general to prepare a comprehensive report on the legal ramifications of the Supreme Court’s decision. Reflecting on his previous role as chairman of Charanchi Local Government under President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, he acknowledged his familiarity with the challenges faced by local governments.
