Lassa fever: Nigeria records 48 cases across 20 LGAs in one week

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has revealed that 20 Local Government Areas across 10 states in Nigeria have recorded at least one confirmed case of Lassa fever.
NCDC disclosed this in its weekly Lassa fever situation report of week 1 from January 3-9, 2022.
The states included Bauchi, Edo, Ondo, Benue, Taraba, Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi, Cross River, and Ebonyi states.
The virus which is spread through direct contact with urine, faeces, saliva or blood of infected rats, can be prevented by promoting good community hygiene to discourage rodents from entering homes.
