Lagos inaugurates club for teens, children

The Lagos Theatre Igando has inaugurated a creative club for residents of Igando, Alimosho and environs to nurture creative talents among teenagers and children in the areas.

Lagos state Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, Akinbile-Yussuf commend the development while delivering her speech at the inauguration of the club in Igando.

She said, “I commend this initiative as this occasion marked the beginning of a creative career for teenagers and children in and around Alimosho.”

“This partnership will bring entertainment to the doorsteps of members of the community in the spirit of the festive season and I want to encourage all residents in and around Igando to make the best use of the theatre located within their neighbourhood to hone their creative skills.”

The Manager, LTI, Mr Bimbo Obafunwa, said the initiative would help children cultivate interest in arts and culture.

“The creative club is a platform to engage the creative community within Igando in line with the government’s initiative of establishing theatres across the state to serve as hubs for creativity and talent discovery for both young and old.” He said.

Obafunwa added that, the event is also to expose parents to the creative club, urged them to enable their children become registered members where they will have the opportunity every weekend to learn coding, chess, music, dance, drama, traditional African drums, tie and dye, visual arts and painting, and other arts and crafts elements that would help boost and foster the creative nature in them.
